LPR town hosts first ever regional cultural heritage forum
SocietyThe first regional forum focused on the preservation of cultural heritage has taken place in the town of Krasnodon of the Lugansk People’s Republic, the press service of the LPR leader’s Executive Office reported.
The forum held at a local museum gathered representatives of the Russian Military-Historical Society (RVIO) and regional and municipal authorities responsible for the preservation of cultural heritage sites in the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
“The participants discussed wartime challenges with respect to cultural heritage and the efforts to facilitate public access to historical sites and involve people and mass media in the preservation of historical and cultural monuments,” the press service said. “They also shared their practical experience.”
The Lugansk region has more than 2,000 heritage sites; some of them cannot be properly maintained due to hostilities, said Oleg Chernousov, deputy head of the LPR leader’s Executive Office. However, they will be inventoried and registered in the near future.
“Priority will be given to World War II monuments. None of them will be ignored by the Republic’s authorities,” Chernousov said.
The Military-Historical Society helped renovate several important LPR heritage sites such as the Unconquered monument in Krasnodon and the Prince Igor monument in Stanitsa Luganskaya.*i
