New Constitution to enable LPR to form government bodies in Russian legal environment - Pasechnik

The new Constitution adopted by the Lugansk People’s Republic People’s Council (parliament) will enable the Republic to form government bodies in the Russian legal environment, LPR Acting Head Leonid Pasechnik said at the parliament session.
 
Earlier on Friday, the LPR lawmakers considered and adopted the new Constitution of the Republic.
 
The LPR Fundamental Law will henceforth be called “the Constitution of the LPR of the Russian Federation,” Pasechnik said.
 
“It is a milestone for our Republic,” he said adding that it highlights the Republic’s “quick and effective integration into the Russian legal framework and its becoming a full-fledged constituent entity of the Russian Federation.“
 
LPR parliament  speaker, Secretary of the Lugansk region branch of the all-Russia political party “United Russia” Denis Miroshnichenko earlier said that the parliament would adopt the new Constitution at the plenary session on December 30.
 
On May 11, 2014, the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics and several areas controlled by Kiev forces, held a referendum on LPR and DPR self-determination. Voter turnout in the Lugansk Region made up 81 percent and in the Donetsk Region 75 percent. LPR and DPR independence was supported by 96.2 percent and 89.7 percent of voters, respectively. The Republics proclaimed their state sovereignty on 12 May 2014. On May 18, 2014, the People’s Council adopted a provisional Fundamental Law (Constitution) of the Lugansk People’s Republic. On May 15, 2020, LPR leader Leonid Pasechnik established LPR Constitution Day by his decree. It is marked annually on May 18.
 
The Lugansk People’s Republic became a part of Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.*i*v
