National Guard officers seize large arms caches in LPR
Military&DefenceNational Guard servicemen have recovered 40,000 rounds of ammunition, 80 mines and 52 grenade launchers from caches of weapons and ammunition in the Lugansk People’s Republic.
“Massive arms caches have been found in the LPR,” the Rosgvardia National Guard press service said on Telegram. “Servicemen have recovered about 600 artillery shells, more than 1,100 fuses, some 150 hand grenades, 80 mines, over 30 kilograms of explosives and more than 40,000 small arms ammunition rounds.”
National Guard servicemen also found 52 grenade launches including a Ukrainian-made RPG-22 and US-made M72A7 and M136/AT4, the press service said.
In March, National Guard officers detained 35 people in the LPR on suspicion of gathering information for the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014. The peace talks that began soon thereafter failed to reach tangible results due to Kiev’s position to settle the conflict by force.
On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation to protect Donbass residents from Ukrainian aggression. Prior to that, LPR and DPR Heads Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin asked the Russian leader to provide military assistance. The LPR militia and Russian armed forces fully liberated the LPR territory from Ukrainian armed formations on July 3.
