LPR authorities have evacuated more than 18 thousand people from the combat zones, and placed them in temporary lodgings, the Republic's Ministry of Emergencies said.

"People from recently liberated territories keep arriving at the LPR daily. As of today, the Republic has accepted and placed 15,404 adults and 2,606 children who seek refuge from the war, destruction and hunger and find shelter in towns and villages of the LPR. They are provided with lodgings, food, clothes, footwear, personal care products and household chemicals," the report reads.

Nearly 15,000 people have been evacuated from Rubezhnoye as of April 7.

About 4,000 people have been taken to Lugansk, where five refugee camps have been opened as of April 22. A help centre for evacuees is also functioning in the capital.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Donbass to protect residents of the region from Ukrainian aggression and called on Ukrainian troops to leave the combat zone. Earlier, the Heads of the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin, requested Russian President Vladimir Putin to provide military assistance. LPR militia had liberated 54 Kiev-held settlements of the Republic by March 6.

The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014.  The members of the Contact Group have announced ceasefire more than 20 times since the autumn of 2014. Kiev forces regularly violated the truce, opening fire with large calibre artillery, mortars and tank guns which were to have been withdrawn from the contact line under the accords. *t
