Russian ombudswoman appeals to UN, ICRC over Kiev strike at Novoaidar

Russian ombudswoman Tatyana Moskalkova has appealed to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Committee of the Red Cross over the strike at the Novoaidar township by Kiev forces.

Kiev forces fired four missiles from a US-made high mobility artillery rocket system at Novoaidar on Saturday morning hitting a hospital and six homes.  Fourteen patients were killed and another 24 were wounded.

“I’m demanding that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Committee of the Red Cross prevent human rights violations and urge Ukrainian authorities to honor the Geneva Convention,” Moskalkova said in a post on Telegram.

Ukrainian army actions were a gross violation of Article 18 of the Geneva Convention on the protection of civilians in time of war, she said.

“I’m confident that a new Nuremberg will give a tough assessment of this crime against humanity,” the ombudswoman said.

A lack of reaction on the part of NATO countries to the aftermath of the Kiev strike at the Novoaidar township is another proof of their involvement in the conflict, said the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014.  The peace talks that began soon thereafter failed to reach tangible results due to Kiev’s position to settle the conflict by force.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation to protect Donbass residents from Ukrainian aggression. Prior to that, LPR and DPR Heads Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin asked the Russian leader to provide military assistance.

The Lugansk People’s Republic became a part of Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.  *i*ie
