Russian govt adopts program for socio-economic development of new regions

The Russian government has adopted a long-term program of socio-economic development of the new regions, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said at a Cabinet meeting.
 
“The President (of Russia, Vladimir Putin) ordered to do everything to integrate them (LPR, DPR and Zaporozhye and Kherson regions) as fast as possible into the economic, legal and education space of our country, and raise the new regions to the national level by all indicators,” Mishustin said, adding that the government had prepared and adopted a long-term socio-economic development program to fulfil this objective.
 
The document proposes to relaunch the key industry sectors in the new territories, restore their production assets and create conditions for further growth, especially for the welfare of citizens and protection of their rights, he said.
 
“The healthcare, education, social protection and culture and sport systems will actually be rebuilt from scratch,” Mishustin said. 
 
The new regions are entitled to loans from the budget for infrastructure projects which will provide them with “additional resources to create comfortable conditions for citizens and raise the standard of living,” the prime minister said.
 
The Lugansk People’s Republic, Donetsk People’s Republic and Zaporozhye and Kherson regions acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referenda.*i*ie
