The Russian Environmental Operator state-run non-profit company (REO) plans to build six solid municipal waste management enterprises in the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republic, the REO press service reported.
“REO and DPR and LPR executive bodies have begun to draw plans for waste management in the region,” the press service said referring to REO Director General Denis Butsayev.
“To develop the solid waste management system in the DPR and LPR, it is planned to build six full-cycle facilities with an aggregate capacity of some 1.4 million tons a year,” Butsayev said.
”The waste management plans for the DPR and LPR will be ready in the first half of this year,” he added.
The project will enable the Donbass Republic to reach, by the year 2030, the targets set in the Russian president’s decree of July 21, 2020 such as 100-percent waste sorting and a two-fold decrease in the volume of waste taken to landfills, the REO press service said.
The Lugansk People’s Republic, Donetsk People’s Republic and Zaporozhye and Kherson regions acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referenda.*i*v
