Russian air defense downs 14 Ukrainian drones in special operation zone over 24 hours

Russian air defense units have shot down 14 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles in the special military operation zone including the territory of the Lugansk People’s Republic over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
 
“Air defense units intercepted three Storm Shadow cruise missiles and 13 HIMARS projectiles over the past 24 hours,” the report said. “Fourteen enemy drones were destroyed in the areas of Verkhnekamenka, Novodruzhesk and Pshenichnoye in the Lugansk People’s Republic, Yasnoye in the Donetsk People’s Republic and Vasilyevka, Lyubimovka and Konstantinovka in the Zaporozhye region.”
 
“On the Kupyansk axis, Task Force “West” aircraft and artillery inflicted damage on enemy units in the areas of Novomlynsk, Kislovka and Glushkovka in the Kharkov region and Stelmakhovka in the Lugansk People’s Republic.
 
“Two Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups were thwarted in the areas of Sinkovka in the Kharkov region and Rozovka in the Lugansk People’s Republic. Enemy losses over the past 24 hours amounted up to 65 servicemen, three cars and D-20 and D-30 howitzers.
 
“On the Krasny Liman axis, Task Force “Center” aircraft, artillery and heavy flamethrower systems inflicted damage on enemy units in the areas of Makeyevka and Chervonaya Dibrova in the Lugansk People’s Republic and Grigorovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic. Ukrainian army losses amounted up to 55 servicemen, two pickups, one D-20 howitzer and one “Gvozdika” self-propelled howitzer,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014.  The peace talks failed to reach tangible results due to Kiev’s position to settle the conflict by force.
 
President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation on February 24, 2022 to protect Donbass residents from Ukrainian aggression. Prior to that, LPR and DPR Heads Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin asked the Russian leader to provide military assistance.
