The decision on the possibility to hold elections in the new Russian regions has to be made before December 12 after consultations with the Defense Ministry and the Federal Security Service (FSB), Central Election Commission Chairperson Ella Pamfilova said at the Federation Council upper house of the Russian parliament.
“Following consultations with the Defense Ministry, the FSB and the regional leaders and taking into account the fact that martial law is in operation there, we have to consider and adopt, not later than December 12, the regulatory documents on the specifics of preparing and holding elections precisely in these conditions,” Pamfilova said.
On Thursday, the Federation Council set the Russian presidential election for March 17, 2024.*i
