The concept of the reform drawn by the Russian Energy Ministry will enable the Lugansk People’s Republic to put its coal-mining industry back on development path, said LPR Acting Head Leonid Pasechnik.

“Russian Deputy Energy Minister Sergrey Mochalnikov, LPR government Chairman Sergey Kozlov and the Republic’s mining sector officials met at a workshop in Lugansk to consider prospects for the development of the LPR coal industry,” Pasechnik wrote on Telegram.

A detailed discussion of the steps towards implementing the reform was held, he said.

“A majority of LPR mining companies have retained their potential, and can operate in the black with investors. There are companies that are ready to invest in our coal mines. Importantly, they showed an interest even in the enterprises which have not operated since 2013,” Pasechnik said.

The workshop participants discussed the social guarantees for LPR coal miners. A document will be adopted at the federal level in the near future to make LPR coalminers entitled to the social benefits available in other Russian regions, the LPR leader said.

At a meeting in the Kremlin on December 20, 2022, Pasechnik said that the “Vostokugol” Republican Fuel Company had become loss-making after the beginning of the special military operation, and asked the president to include LPR coal mines in the state coal supply program.

The Lugansk People’s Republic acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.*i*v
