Russian State Duma’s seventh convocation is coming to the end of its five-year term. Candidates will compete for the 450 seats in the State Duma of the eights convocation, the lower house of the Federal Assembly. Currently, the ruling United Russia Party has 343 seats after winning 2016 election with 54.2 percent of votes. 335 United Russia lawmakers are working in the Duma. The next-largest faction is that of the Communist Party, followed by Liberal-Democratic Party and Fair Russia.

Modern technologies will enable Donbass residents to cast votes remotely in Russian State Duma elections, said LPR head Leonid Pasechnik speaking at the Russian Citizens Forum in Lugansk.

"I am confident that modern technologies will all Russian citizens residing in the LPR to participate in the election by means of remote electronic voting, without having to leave the place of permanent residence," he said.

Earlier Pasechnik pledged to assist in making it possible for LPR residents to vote in the State Duma elections.

On April, 24, 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree easing citizenship rules for residents of the Lugansk People’s Republic and the Donetsk People’s Republic. LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik thanked Russia for this move and ordered the ministries concerned to create the necessary conditions for accepting residents’ Russian citizenship application documents. The first centre for LPR residents seeking Russian citizenship opened in Lugansk on May 6. The Republic currently has such centres in all towns and districts. On April 24, 2020, Putin signed the law exempting Donbass Republics residents from paying the state fee for conferment of citizenship.

The first LPR residents obtained Russian passports under a simplified procedure on June 14, 2019. By mid-July 2021, the number of Donbass residents with Russian passports had exceeded 600,000. *t
