The mayors of Lugansk and Rzhev, Manolis Pilavov and Roman Krylov have signed a cooperation agreement at a ceremony in the Rzhev district administration building, the Lugansk City Hall press service reported.

“The agreement is important to both sides. We have to support each other and walk shoulder to shoulder” Krylov said.  “Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the initiative of Lugansk People’s Republic residents to reunite with the Russian Federation, and this decision was based on historical justice. The agreement is another step towards preventing the re-writing of our history, a step towards preserving our culture and the memory of our ancestors.”

The cities plan to cooperate in the trade, economic, research and social and humanitarian fields.

“Rzhev is a city with a big heart and good traditions. Whereas Lugansk marks its 228th anniversary this year, Rzhev is 807-year-old, so we’ve got a lot to learn from you,” Pilavov said.

The Lugansk People’s Republic acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.*i*ie
