Lugansk Railways mulls link with Moscow

A rail link between the Lugansk People’s Republic and Moscow might be a promising project after the end of hostilities, Lugansk Railways (LZhD) Director Nikolay Baboido told the Lugansk Media Center.

 

“Passengers might find trips to Moscow, St Petersburg and southern destinations interesting,” Baibodo said adding that this issue had been discussed in the beginning of 2023.

 

“It was suggested considering the Lugansk-Moscow route via Valuiki, with car attachment, if the frontline moved on the Kharkov axis. As for the southern direction, trains will run via Donetsk towards  Crimea,” he said.

The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014.  The peace talks failed to reach tangible results due to Kiev’s position to settle the conflict by force.

 

President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation  on February 24, 2022 to protect Donbass residents from Ukrainian aggression. Prior to that, LPR and DPR Heads Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin asked the Russian leader to provide military assistance.
