The Lugansk People’s Republic will hold elections to the People’s Council (parliament) and local self-rule bodies in September 2023, LPR parliament speaker, secretary of the “United Russia” political party’s Lugansk branch Denis Miroshnichenko said.

“The elections will take place in September 2023, not just to the People’s Council, but also to town councils and district councils that will be created as well," Russia’s news agency TASS quoted him as saying.

He said that the Republic would set up its local self-rule bodies for the first time.

Previously, “our legislative branch was only represented by the People’s Council,” the LPR parliament speaker said. “Next year, as a constituent entity of the Russian Federation, we’ll establish town and district councils, i.e. municipal authorities, so we’ll hold elections.”

The parliament is legislatively prepared for the elections, he added.

“The road map I talked about provides for all these steps by means of the law on local self-rule,” Miroshnichenko said.

Earlier, he said that the authorities would draw a road map for the LPR’s transition into the legal space of the Russian Federation.

The Lugansk People’s Republic acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022, based on the results of the unification referendum.*i*v
