LUGANSK, February 11 (Lugansk Media Centre) - Lugansk People’s Republic State Security Ministry (MGB) officers detained six State Customs Committee (GTK) officials who had taken large bribes, the MGB spokeswoman Yevgenia Lyubenko said.
The investigation into the criminal case filed by the MGB found that several senior GTK officials had set up a criminal group for the purpose of illegal enrichment, Lyubenko said.
“For a period of ten months, the criminals abused their office powers taking large bribes from business people and natural persons for clearing border-crossing cargoes and vehicles,” she said. “They also identified the people to extort money from, including natural persons and legal entities who engaged in business in the Republic.”
The total sum of bribes made up 13,646,420 rubles, the MGB said.
The money seized from the suspects will be passed to the LPR budget. The criminal case has been referred to a court for hearing on the merits, the spokeswoman said.
