Officers of the Lugansk People’s Republic State Security Ministry (MGB) and LPR police have found a weapon and ammunition cache of Ukrainian special operations groups that planned terrorist attacks in the LPR territory, the MGB press service said.

“The weapons and ammunition were stored for carrying out acts of terror and sabotage in Lugansk,” the press service said. The cache contained machine guns, grenade launchers, small arms ammunition and a 2A28 artillery piece round.

“The dangerous ordnance was disposed of on the spot. LPR law-enforcers are looking for the terrorists,” the MGB said.

Earlier, Russian security officers detained a Belokurakino district resident who had been passing information on the location of Russian army units to Ukraine. In another episode, the LPR MGB prevented a Ukrainian special operations group from attacking civil infrastructure facilities and kindergartens.

The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014.  The peace talks that began soon thereafter failed to reach tangible results due to Kiev’s position to settle the conflict by force.

On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation to protect Donbass residents from Ukrainian aggression. Prior to that, LPR and DPR Heads Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin asked the Russian leader to provide military assistance. The LPR militia and Russian armed forces fully liberated the LPR territory from Ukrainian armed formations on July 3.

The Lugansk People’s Republic acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.*i*v
