Lugansk People’s Republic authorities plan to launch the Lugansk thermal power plant in Schastye on May 7, LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik said at a meeting with Melovskoy district residents.

“We plan to launch the Schastye thermal power plant on May 7; it will supply electricity to this (liberated area of the Republic),” he said adding that powerful diesel generators would be delivered to LPR districts prior to the launching of the facility.

Earlier, Russian Army Mine Clearance Centre engineers demined the Lugansk thermal power plant located in Schastye.

The LPR Head said that the launch of the Lugansk thermal power plan would enable the Alchevsk Metallurgical Works to resume operation at full capacity.
Gunmen of the Ukrainian nationalistic battalion “Aidar” turned the thermal power plant into a stronghold with a network of fire positions and bunkers in which Javelin anti-tank missile systems were found.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation to protect Donbass residents from Ukrainian aggression. Earlier, LPR and DPR Heads Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin asked the Russian leader to provide military assistance. As of now, some 80 percent of the LPR territory has been liberated.
The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014.  The peace talks participants have announced ceasefire more than 20 times since the autumn of 2014. Kiev forces regularly violated the truce opening fire with large caliber artillery, mortars and tank guns which were to have been withdrawn from the contact line under the accords. *i*t
