The Lugansk People’s Republic parliament has prepared a draft of the new Constitution which has to be adopted following the Republic’s accession to Russia, first deputy parliament speaker Dmitry Khoroshilov told reporters.

The new version of the Constitution which is expected to be adopted by yearend, will keep the basic norms proclaimed in 2014.

“The text is mostly ready; its discussion is underway,” Khoroshilov said. “I hope that our Fundamental Law will be adopted in the near future.”

The LPR will keep its status of People’s Republic, he said adding that changes might be made to the structure of government bodies.

“We also propose that our parliament, the People’s Council, keep its name,” the first deputy speaker said.

The Lugansk People’s Republic became a part of Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.*i*ie
