LPR parliament adopts new Constitution

The Lugansk People’s Republic parliament has considered and adopted the new Constitution of the Republic at its session on Friday.

 

The decision was made in connection with the LPR accession to the Russian Federation.

 

All the 43 deputies present at the session supported the adoption of the new Fundamental Law.

 

LPR People’s Council speaker, Secretary of the Lugansk region branch of the all-Russia political party “United Russia” Denis Miroshnichenko earlier said that the parliament would adopt the new Constitution at the plenary session on December 30.

 

On May 11, 2014, the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics and several areas controlled by Kiev forces, held a referendum on LPR and DPR self-determination. Voter turnout in the Lugansk Region made up 81 percent and in the Donetsk Region 75 percent. LPR and DPR independence was supported by 96.2 percent and 89.7 percent of voters, respectively. The Republics proclaimed their state sovereignty on May 12, 2014. On May 18, 2014, the People’s Council adopted a provisional Fundamental Law (Constitution) of the Lugansk People’s Republic.  On May 15, 2020, LPR leader Leonid Pasechnik established LPR Constitution Day by his decree. It is marked annually on May 18.

 

The Lugansk People’s Republic became a part of Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.*i*v
