LPR ombudsperson’s Office helps identify 49 Ukrainian servicemen who were reported missing

Lugansk People’s Republic ombudsperson Viktoria Serdyukova said that her Office has helped to establish the identity of 49 Ukrainian servicemen who were reported missing.

 

“We keep records of the requests for the search for missing Ukrainian servicemen who took part in the fighting on the side of the Ukrainian state,” Serdyukova wrote on Telegram. “In the period from January 1, 2023 through April 30, 2023, the Office received 256 such requests; it established the whereabouts of 49 people; the fate of another 207 is unknown.”

 

In April, Serdyukova's Office reported that it had helped to establish the whereabouts of 43 Kiev army servicemen in the first quarter of this year.

 

The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014.  The peace talks that began soon thereafter failed to reach tangible results due to Kiev’s position to settle the conflict by force.

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation to protect Donbass residents from Ukrainian aggression. On February 24, 2022. Prior to that, LPR and DPR Heads Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin asked the Russian leader to provide military assistance.

 

The Lugansk People’s Republic acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.*i*v
