Lugansk People’s Republic militiamen shot down a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) which was to have adjusted mortar fire at the Republic’s territory, LPR People’s Militia press service officer Alexander Mazeikin said at a press briefing at the Lugansk Media Centre.

“Yesterday, a 24th Brigade platoon advanced to temporary positions to complete a fire mission,” Mazeikin said. “Simultaneously, Ukrainian gunmen in the Katerinovka settlement area launched an Autel EVO quadcopter from frontline positions of 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade. LPR militiamen downed the drone which was flying toward the Moldyozhnoye settlement as it crossed the contact line,” Mazeikin said.

“After the loss of the drone, the mortar squad retreated without launching the strike as fire adjustment was not available,” the press service officer said.

The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014. Conflict settlement relies on the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements, signed on February 12, 2015 in the Belarussian capital by the Contact Group members and coordinated by the Normandy Four heads of states (Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine). The document provides for ceasefire and withdrawal of heavy weapons from the contact line. *i*s
