Secretary of the Lugansk branch of the “United Russia” political party Denis Miroshnichenko has launched the traditional national New Year action for war veterans in the Lugansk People’s Republic.

“On December 26, Denis Miroshnichenko started the traditional “Happy New Year, Veteran!” action which is carried out by “United Russia” and “Victory Volunteers” across the country,” the press service of the Party’s regional branch said.

Miroshnichenko and LPR parliamentarians visited veterans on the first day of the action.

“Today, we’ve launched a very important action in the LPR. We’ll wish a happy New Year to Great Patriotic War veterans.  I’m confident that the veterans who have lived in the Lugansk People’s Republic for the past eight years and felt the attention of LPR residents, will feel the party’s care for them today,” Miroshnichenko said. “We’ll also visit the liberated areas of our Republic because the veterans there have been denied the official observance of the great Victory Day for eight years and have been deprived of attention illegally and unjustly.”

Miroshnichenko visited veterans who lived in Lugansk. They told him their war stories noting that they were happy about people’s being able to wear St George’s ribbon without fear in the liberated LPR territory.

LPR parliamentarian, “United Russia” member Pavel Pilavov visited veterans in the Stanichno-Lugansky district.

“Ukraine has been putting in doubt Great Patriotic War veterans’ feats in the past few years. They openly mocked them, and it became dangerous to thank Great Patriotic war heroes or lay flowers to monuments in public. But our country is a great power which honors its heroes. Today, in the runup to the New Year holidays, “United Russia” is giving presents and best wishes to our veterans, and again thanks them for the feat they performed in the Great Patriotic war by defending the whole world from fascists,” the lawmaker said.

“Clean Country” regional coordinator, member of the LPR parliament and “United Russia” Vladimir Polyakov visited veterans in Starobelsk. He noted that the LPR had always honored the feats of Soviet soldiers and paid special attention to veterans.

“Feting war veterans has always been an honorable tradition for us. However, the Ukrainian army and nationalistic battalions occupied a part of the LPR territory in 2014. In that part of the region, they treated war veterans without due respect, insulted them and prohibited Victory Day celebrations. The Lugansk regional branch of “United Russia” is bringing back to the LPR liberated areas the tradition to honor people’s feat and respect war veterans,” he said.

In the course of the action, volunteers will give New Year presents to more than 31,000 Great Patriotic War veterans and disabled Great Patriotic War veterans across Russia. The action will run until December 31.

“United Russia” set up its regional branch in the LPR on October 21. LPR parliament speaker Denis Miroshnichenko was elected its secretary. Deputy chairman of the Russian parliament committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, “United Russia” deputy Viktor Vodolatsky announced the launching of reception rooms to work with residents of the region and form an institution of party supporters in the Republic. “United Russia” said that more than 22,000 people had joined the party by the time the LPR branch was established.

The Lugansk People’s Republic became a part of Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.*i*v
