LPR cannot make predictions about talks due to sabotage by Kiev - Deinego

The Lugansk People’s Republic cannot make predictions about the Donbass peace talks due to the sabotage by Kiev, LPR representative at the Minsk talks, the Republic’s Foreign Minister Vladislav Deinego said in the course of the press conference “The Future of Donbass. Perhaps, the best is yet to come.”

“On the part of Ukraine, complete sabotage of building any relations with Donbass is ongoing, so it is very difficult to talk about prospects for relations with Ukraine or make predictions,” Deinego said at the online event arranged by the Public News Service press centre.“

“As of today, this situation within the framework of the Minsk talks creates major setbacks. We had hopes for some policy turns as Ukraine was changing its government; we had certain expectations and hopes that have not come true as of today,” he said.

The LPR representative said that the LPR and Ukraine might be able to agree “a political compromise within the next five years, which would enable us to turn our back on any security issues.”

The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014. Conflict settlement relies on the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements, signed on February 12, 2015 in the Belarusian capital by the Contact Group members and coordinated by the Normandy Four heads of states (Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine). The UN Security Council approved the document by Resolution No 2202 of February 17, 2015 and called upon the parties to ensure its implementation.

The document provides for comprehensive ceasefire, withdrawal of all heavy weapons from the contact line, starting a dialog on reconstruction of social and economic ties between Kiev and Donbass. It also envisages carrying out constitutional reform in Ukraine providing for decentralization and adopting permanent legislation on a special status of certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. *i*s
