Kiev forces violate ceasefire once in 24 hours

Military&Defence
Despite numerous announcements and confirmations of a durable ceasefire at the Contact Group meetings, Kiev forces regularly violate them. Seven years into the armed conflict, 24-hour lulls are still rare in Donbass.

LUGANSK, May 21 (Lugansk Media Centre) – Ukrainian armed forces violated the ceasefire once in 24 hours, the LPR mission to the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination (JCCC) said.

"Ukrainian army targeted the township of Donetskiy," the report reads.

Small arms were used in the attack. As a result, an LPR defender was killed.

The Contact Group agreed tighter ceasefire control measures in Donbass starting 00:01, July 27, 2020. The measures ban special operations, use of unmanned aerial vehicles and deployment of heavy armaments in and around residential areas Return fire is allowed in case of offensive, if the order is given by the leadership of Ukrainian forces or DPR and LPR People’s Militias after the unsuccessful attempt to use the coordination mechanism.

The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014. Conflict settlement relies on the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements, signed on February 12, 2015 in the Belarussian capital by the Contact Group members and coordinated by the Normandy Four heads of states (Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine). The document provides for ceasefire and withdrawal of heavy weapons from the contact line.*t
