First LPR residents get Russian driver’s license, vehicle registration plates

The first residents of the Lugansk People’s Republic have received Russian driver’s licenses and vehicle registration plates, LPR Interior Ministry public relations office reported.

 

LPR driver’s licenses and car number plates are being replaced with Russian issue documents and signs in line with Russian government resolution No 2216 of December 2, 2022.

 

“Today, the first residents got Russian driver’s licenses and number plates of the LPR which is now one of the regions of our big great Motherland,” said LPR Deputy Interior Minister for Public Safety Mikhail Paraskeyev.

 

The residents with LPR or Ukrainian vehicle registration completed before December 14, 2022 have to re-register by January 1, 2026 as the Republic became a part of Russia. No fee will be charged for the service.

 

An applicant has to provide his car for inspection by traffic police. Compulsory civil liability insurance for vehicle owners will not be required for registration until January 1, 2024. Car owners do not have to take driving tests or medical examinations for re-registration.

 

The documents required for re-registration are Russian passport or RF citizen residence permit and proof of LPR residence.

 

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs assigned regional code 81 to license plates of the vehicles registered in the Lugansk People’s Republic.

 

The Lugansk People’s Republic became a part of Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.*i*ie
