Fire extinguished at Samsonovskaya-Zapadnaya coal mine, no casualties

Samsonovskaya-Zapadnaya coal mine was launched in 1999. It has produced almost 20 mln tons of coal over 20 years and coal faces are 85 km long. It is considered unsafe due to possible coal and gas outbursts and coal dust explosions.

Paramilitary firefighters and emergency response teams have extinguished fire at Samsonovskaya-Zapadnaya coal mine in Krasnodon, there were no reports of casualties, the Ministry of Emergencies said.

The blaze broke out on June 14 at the 4th western coal face prompting immediate evacuation of miners.

"On June 16, as the fire was out and no hazardous or explosive gases were detected inside the mine, technical works resumed. There were no casualties or victims," the report reads.

"Power is supplied, the affected area is off grid, as well as faces along the outgoing airflow. Mine rescue teams are monitoring the situation and cooling of the rock in the affected areas." *t
