Federation Council speaker hands in ID cards to senators from four new regions

Speaker of the Federation Council upper house of the Russian parliament has handed in senator ID cards and badges to the representatives from the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, Russia’s TASS news agency reported.
 
LPR Acting Head Leonid Pasechnik signed a decree vesting Russian Federation senator powers in executive branch representative Darya Lantratova, deputy secretary of the General Council of the all-Russian political party “United Russia,” while the LPR parliament vested Russian senator powers in 3rd parliament deputy Olga Bas.
 
“The senators will represent in the Federation Council residents of these regions (LPR, DPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions) who rejected the anti-constitutional coup in Ukraine and have been courageously defending their land from Ukrainian Nazis for eight years,” Matviyenko said.
 
She wished the new senators successful work and asked FC members to support and share their experience with them.
 
The senators from the Donetsk People’s Republic are DPR parliament member Alexander Ananchenko and former DPR foreign Minister Natalia Nikonorova. The senator from the Zaporozhye region executive branch is Dmitry Vorona, a former advisor to Crimea leader Sergey Aksyonov. The senator from the Kherson region executive branch is Konstantin Basyuk, an advisor to the acting Kherson region governor.
 
The Federation Council upper house of the Russian parliament includes two representatives from each region from the legislative and executive branches of power.
 
The Lugansk People’s Republic, Donetsk People’s Republic and Zaporozhye and Kherson regions acceded to Russia on September 30, 2022, based on the results of the unification referenda.*i*v
