Every resident of the Lugansk People’s Republic can apply for vaccination against COVID-19 with the Sputnik Light vaccine starting July 29, LPR Head Leonid Pasechnik said. A batch of the vaccine is due to be delivered to the Republic on Wednesday.

“Starting next Thursday (July 29), every LPR resident can apply at the local out-patient hospital for COVID-19 vaccination which is available to everybody, not only to certain groups of the population,” Pasechnik said.

Earlier on Tuesday, LPR chief sanitary officer Dmitry Dokashenko said that medics were expecting the supply of the Russian Sputnik Light vaccine against the novel coronavirus infection.

Dokashenko said that the immunization of LPR residents with the Sputnik Light vaccine would help the LPR to smoothly enter the epidemic season.

The World Health Organization called the COVID-19 coronavirus infection a pandemic caused by a novel coronavirus. The first coronavirus infection cases were recorded in China in late 2019. The number of coronavirus contacts across the world has exceeded 194 million by now; of those, over 4.1 million people died, according to the WHO. The LPR confirmed 6,245 COVID-19 cases.

To prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection, the LPR authorities have put the Republic on high alert and introduced lockdown measures. *i*s
