Lugansk People’s Republic and Russian engineers have examined nearly 3,000 hectares of territory in the LPR rendering harmless more than 73,000 explosive hazards since February, the LPR Emergencies Ministry press service reported.

“LPR Emergencies Ministry and Russian engineer units, as well as specialists of the Russian armed forces’ International Mine Action Center have responded to 1,670 requests, checked 2,964 hectares of territory and defused 73,044 explosive hazards since the beginning of the special military operation on February 24,” the report said.

The press service said that special attention had been paid to roads, bridges, farmland, and power, gas and water lines.

“Overall, engineers have checked 251 kilometers of power lines, 106 kilometers of trunk water pipelines, 354 kilometers of roads, 113 kilometers of railway tracks, as well as more than 20 ruined bridges and overpasses ahead of their repairs,” the Ministry said. “The biggest problem is the mixed mine fields in the areas where infrastructure will be restored as mine clearance requires special equipment.”

“On Monday, a joint engineer unit of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry finished mine clearance and returned to the home base. Its specialists earlier received LPR state and departmental awards.

As of August 5, LPR and Russian engineers had examined nearly 2,000 hectares of territory in the LPR and rendered harmless more than 30,000 explosive hazards.

On April 1, Russia supplied to the LPR an Uran-6 multifunctional robotic demining system and sent skilled engineers who destroyed some 250 explosive hazards on the premises of the Lugansk thermal power plant.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation to protect Donbass residents from Ukrainian aggression. Prior to that, LPR and DPR Heads Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin asked the Russian leader to provide military assistance. On July 3, the LPR militia and Russian armed forces fully liberated the LPR territory from Ukrainian armed formations.

The Ukrainian government launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against Donbass in April 2014.  The peace talks that began soon thereafter failed to reach tangible results due to Kiev’s position to settle the conflict by force.

The Lugansk People’s Republic became a part of Russia on September 30, 2022 following the unification referendum.*i*ie
